The social networking site Facebook has paid 17 million rubles (29 229,000) in fines to Russia.
According to the International News Agency, Facebook was fined by a Russian court for failing to remove illegal content, for which the Meta group paid a fine of 17 million rubles to Russia.
In addition, the mobile messaging application Telegram has also paid a fine of 15 million rubles to Russia, but Telegram declined to comment.
Despite paying such a hefty fine, Facebook is likely to face another major fine. Facebook and Google will face another lawsuit in a local court next week over alleged violations of Russian law.
In this case, Facebook could be fined up to 1% of its annual revenue in Russia. An attempt was made to get Facebook to comment on the case, but the Facebook administration declined to comment.
It should be noted that in October this year, Russia also sent law enforcement officials to collect 17 million rubles in fines imposed on Facebook.
