The method of this common machine used in almost every home was accidentally discovered by engineer Percy Spencer.
Percy was employed as an engineer at a company called Raytheon Corporation. One day he was working on a radar device called a magnetron when the chocolate in his pocket began to melt. They realized that this was due to the microwaves emitting from the device.
Percy then experimented with the world’s first food popcorn in the microwave and was successful. With the results in mind, it was decided to enclose the microwaves in a safe box.
On October 8, 1945, Percy applied for a certificate of the invention. Percy then introduced the first microwave oven, called the Radar Range, which was about the size of a refrigerator.
However, it was not offered for general household use for decades after its invention. Went to the microwave market in 1967 and then went on sale.
